Measure: AR Tape Measure (Android app com.effectiveflow.measure)
Measure is an AR tape measure for Android, published by Effective Flow GmbH. This policy explains what the app does with information about you. The short version: Measure doesn’t collect, send or share any of your data. It has no account, no advertising and no analytics, and it doesn’t ask for internet access.
What Measure uses, and why
Camera. Measure uses the camera to see the surfaces around you and to track how the phone moves, so it can place points and measure between them. The camera image is processed on your phone, shown on your screen, and then discarded. It isn’t recorded, stored or sent anywhere, unless you choose to save a photo (see below).
Motion sensors. Measure reads the phone’s accelerometer and gyroscope to track movement while measuring, and to show the tilt in Level. These readings are used on your phone as they arrive and aren’t kept.
That is all. Measure doesn’t ask for your location, contacts, microphone, files, accounts or any identifier.
What Measure keeps on your phone
- Your measurements. Each measurement you finish is saved in the app’s private storage on your phone: its length, its direction (level, upright or slanted) and the time you took it. Only Measure can read this list, and it stays until you delete it.
- Your settings. Your choice of units, inch fractions, whether to show both units, and whether haptics are on, kept in the app’s private storage.
- Photos you save. When you tap the photo button, Measure saves a picture of the camera view with your measurements drawn on it to your phone’s gallery, in
Pictures/Measure. Like any photo in your gallery, it belongs to you, and other apps you’ve allowed to see your photos can see it.
None of this is sent to the developer or anyone else. The app turns off Android’s cloud backup, so your measurements and settings aren’t copied to a backup service. (On some phones, Android’s own phone-to-phone transfer may still copy app data when you move to a new phone.)
Sharing
Measure only shares something when you ask it to: when you tap Share all in your measurements, or when you save a photo and the share sheet opens. You choose which app receives it, and what happens next is governed by that app. Copying a measurement puts it on your phone’s clipboard.
Google Play Services for AR (ARCore)
This application runs on Google Play Services for AR (ARCore), which is provided by Google and governed by the Google Privacy Policy.
Measure includes ARCore functionality provided by Google. Use of ARCore functionality is subject to the then-current Google Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy.
Google Play Services for AR is a separate app from Google, which Measure needs in order to find surfaces. Google describes the data it handles in How Google Play Services for AR handles your data. Measure doesn’t use ARCore’s online features (Cloud Anchors or the Geospatial API), so no camera images or location are sent to Google for them. Measure itself never receives any information that Google Play Services for AR collects.
Keeping your data safe
Everything Measure keeps is on your phone, in the app’s private storage or your gallery, protected by Android’s own app sandboxing and your phone’s lock screen and encryption. Because nothing is sent over the internet, there is nothing to intercept in transit and nothing held on any server.
How long it’s kept, and how to delete it
Your data stays on your phone for as long as you keep it:
- One measurement: open Measurements and swipe it away.
- All measurements: open Measurements and tap Clear History.
- Photos: delete them in your gallery app, like any other photo.
- Everything the app keeps privately (measurements and settings): in Android Settings → Apps → Measure, use Clear storage, or uninstall the app. Uninstalling doesn’t remove photos you saved to your gallery.
There’s nothing to ask the developer to delete, because the developer never has any of it.
Children
Measure isn’t directed at children, and it collects no information from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If Measure ever changes what it does with your information, this policy will be updated first and the date at the top changed. Measure’s promise is that it stays free, with no ads, no in-app purchases and no tracking.
