Answers to the questions people ask most, and how to reach us.

How do I take a measurement?

Open Measure and move your phone slowly for a moment, pointing it at a floor, a table or a wall. A ring fills while it maps the room, and the + button wakes up when it’s ready. Aim the reticle at one end of what you’re measuring and tap +, then move to the other end and tap + again. The distance appears on the line.

To start the next measurement from a point you’ve already placed, aim near it: the reticle snaps to it with an amber ring and a light tick.

The + button stays grey

Measure is still mapping the room. Keep moving the phone slowly, side to side, until the ring fills. It helps to point at something with texture, like wood grain, a rug or a patterned floor, in good light. If the hint says Move closer, the surface in the middle of the screen is more than 8 m away.

How accurate is it?

Measurements are approximate, typically within 1–2 cm at room scale. For best results, measure 0.5–5 m away, in good light, on surfaces with some texture. Plain, shiny or dark surfaces are harder to measure. Please use a real tape measure for anything that has to be exact.

Which phones does it run on?

Phones that support ARCore, running Android 10 or later. Google keeps the list of ARCore-supported devices. Measure also needs Google Play Services for AR, a free app from Google; your phone offers to install it the first time, if it isn’t installed already.

How do I switch between metric and imperial?

Open Settings and choose Metric or Imperial under Units, and ⅛″ or 1/16″ for inch fractions. Every distance follows the setting, including measurements you took before. You can also show both units in the Measurements list.

Where are my measurements?

Tap the Measurements button next to +. Every measurement you finish is listed there, grouped by day. Copy one value, share the whole list as text, swipe one away to delete it, or tap Clear History to delete them all. The list is kept on your phone only.

How do I use the level?

Switch to Level at the bottom of the screen. Stand the phone on one of its edges against the surface, or lay it flat on it, and read the tilt in whole degrees. The screen turns amber when it’s level. Level doesn’t use the camera.

Does Measure send anything anywhere?

No. Measure doesn’t ask for internet access, so nothing you measure or photograph can be sent anywhere by the app. There’s no account, no analytics and no advertising. The privacy policy has the details, including what Google Play Services for AR does.

Will it always be free?

Yes. Measure has no ads, no in-app purchases, no subscription and no “Pro” version, and it never will.
